Abstract

Because of the demonstrated economic benefit of microfinance on low-income communities, the Moroccan government has continually supported the sector's development. This paper seeks to recapitulate the important phases in the history of the microfinance industry from its inception in the early 1990s, stressing both the sector's progress and the challenges it faces.
